Join us for a woodland walk!

PWDRA National Trust Petts Wood & Hawkwood Estate Walks and Talks programme – 2023.


Saturday 15th April 10am: A woodland through time. An introduction to the social history of the woodland with Mel Wright and how this natural green space can help lift the spirits for good physical and mental wellbeing. Meet at woods entrance through Hazlemere Road underpass.


Wednesday 3rd May 6.30am: Dawn Chorus. Peter Smart of the RSPB Bromley Local Group leads us quietly through the woodland to hear early morning, spring bird song and identify what they are. Bring binoculars if you can. Meet at woods entrance through Hazlemere Road underpass.


Monday 5th June 11am: Insects. Hover flies, beetles, moths, dragonflies and more! Depending on fair weather the woods are a magnet for spotting these special creatures. Local naturalist John Pelter will guide us to their likely habitat. Meet at Hawkwood Estate near the entrance of Tong Farm.


Saturday 8th July 10am. Wildflowers and Plants. Guided by John Bruce, Chair of Friends of Jubilee Country Park. Exploring plants and wildflowers that grow in the woods. In what kind of habitat do they flourish? We hope to see an array of species. Meet at woods entrance through Hazlemere Road underpass.


Monday 7th August 10am: Ponds. Chris Wells – leader of the Hawkwood volunteer team who have helped to clear and revitalise the natural environment of Flushers Pond and Pond Wood. This walk will include a background history of these two very interesting ponds and an outline of future work. Meet outside Marjorie McClure school, Hawkwood Lane. (Should be ample parking as school holidays).


Monday 2nd October 11am: Fungi. Local naturalist John Pelter leads us through the woodland to discover and observe a range of fungi specimens. He will explain the different types from the most common to the rare! Meet at woods entrance through Hazlemere Road underpass. ___________________


Note different meeting points. Do wear sturdy footwear and use walking poles if necessary. The woodland floor can be uneven and sometimes muddy. No dogs please. If wet we may have to cancel at short notice. To call us on the day or day before walk: 07539390786.
